Meat on a Stick

Meat on a Stick

What keeps us from reaching our “promised land”? I’ve been giving this a lot of thought lately. Everyone has something that is just out of reach. It reminds me of dog races I have seen in the past where there is a stick with a tasty piece of meat dangling in front of the dogs. When the race begins the stick moves just ahead of the dogs coaxing them around and around the race track until the finish line. To this day, I am not sure if the winning dog receives even a bite of the tasty incentive.

What is your meat on the stick that keeps dangling in front of you or the Promised Land that you are striving to reach? I’ve been thinking about the men that were directed by God to go out and investigate the Promised Land. Why did they come back scared out of their minds and unwilling to go forth? Why were they willing to just stay put circling in the desert for forty years until all of their generation died off?

Before being hard on them, I must ask myself if I am putting off my Promised Land for the comfort of the known. Am I going around in circles because I don’t dare reach out of my comfort zone for a life of unexplored challenges?

In Psalm 37:3-4, David writes, “Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.”

I believe the key to the door that will open up my new journey starts here. The first step begins with trusting, dwelling, and delighting in the Lord. And then he will bless me by giving me the desires of my heart.

Now all I need to do is turn the key, open the door and walk through.
