Yesterday, when I was going through the archives of 1895, I came across this letter addressed to Richard Harvey Wright from Julian Shakespeare Carr. I found it intriguing. It is clear that Julian Shakespeare Carr cared deeply for the city of Durham and how it was to move forward.

As far as I know, Richard didn’t build a “cheap hotel” but did invest in a mill.

Thank you for sharing
Elizabeth, you are quite welcome. I feel selfish if I don’t share some of the letters that I have come upon in Richard’s archives.
Very interesting, Cora! Do you have any information on the mill yet?
I haven’t discovered much. I do know that Richard owned a bobbin mill but am unsure when it was in existence. I also know that he owned interest in a cotton mill. Richard was not associated with Erwin Mills. The Dukes were the money behind Erwin Mills. They hired William Erwin to run the plant and spent a lot of money making sure it was done right. As we all know, Erwin Mills was very successful.
