Yesterday, I went to my preoperational evaluation to determine if I am well enough for surgery. I was interviewed by a nurse practitioner who was extremely attentive. Once again, I feel blessed to live in the City of Medicine! Duke University Medical Center has not only met my expectations but exceeded them!
It is interesting to think back to 1924 when James Buchanan Duke placed forty million dollars into an endowment for the sole purpose of establishing a world class university that would include a medical school.
Even though I was born at Watts Hospital, when I was twelve years old, I was in a motor boat accident. My father and I were thrown from the boat, leaving the vehicle without a driver. I happened to be in the path of the boat and the propeller slashed up my left arm and all down my back.
I’ll never forget that night, when my parents pulled up in front of Duke Hospital and I was seen by several physicians. I spent a week in the hospital and returned the following summer to repair many of the scars.
Next month, I’ll have my thyroid removed. And even though I’m concerned, I have full confidence in the surgeon and all the people who will be assisting.
Today, my devotional stated: “Be on the lookout for My blessings, searching for them as for hidden treasure.” I Thessalonians 3:18 states, “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
I have MANY blessings to be thankful for, and Duke Hospital is one of them!
Hey, Cora, we were also there yesterday for Ernie’s 18-month post cancer surgery check-up. All went well. We also mentioned how great it is to have such a great resource so nearby. Other people in the waiting room had traveled from as far as Tennessee to get treatment at Duke. Keep us posted about your progress. MSjogren
