Just when I thought life would get back to normal, I was mistaken. After my surgery to have my thyroid and the cancer removed, I felt blessed to have a short recovery with very minimal complications. My lymph nodes are clear and all looks good on the horizon.
A little less than a month after the surgery, Jay and I drove to Port Canaveral and boarded a ship that took us into eighty-degree temperatures. We were gone for two weeks, visiting places we had never been before. The Panama Canal was mind boggling and Costa Rico was beautiful with lush green vegetation and summer like humidity.
But little did we know that we would return to lower-than-normal temperatures and sleet covered roads. After a short delay, we left Florida and came back to Durham to adjust to temperatures that caused us to layer up and buckle down.
And then two days after being home, Jay tested positive for Covid. Believe it or not, we have never had Covid and didn’t understand how it would impact us. Jay starts each day with lots of energy, but by evening time, he can be found sitting in his chair covered with a warm blanket. So far, other than a normal head cold, I’ve tested negative and feel okay.
I can go on and on about how thankful we are for so many things. We feel blessed to have people in our lives that are willing to drudge through the snow to drop off soup or goodies to munch on. We feel blessed to be forced to slow down and enjoy the company of each other.
Life is a rollercoaster of ups and downs and if I’ve learned one thing, it never turns out the way we imagine it will. But if we stay grateful, we will find joy on the ride, no matter where it takes us.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

You have a great attitude, Cora! So sorry to hear about your husband’s COVID. Don’t be fooled if he feels pretty good and thinks it’s over; it can ramp up again! So tell him not to overdo.
Just finished your Brody book and enjoyed it! It was a real page- turner! Your storytelling was gripping. Great book! Sometime I’d like to ask about how much was authentic and how much you had to fill in.
Hope to see you on the courts one of these days!
Diane
Diane,
Thanks for your message. I will definitely consider your advice about COVID. Thank you also about your comments about the Brodie Duke book. I’d love to find a time to sit down and talk. Maybe we can play tennis next week and talk afterward. Cora
