Recovery

It’s a week out and I had no idea what condition I would be in once I left the hospital. As I reflect back on this experience, Jay and I have laughed as we will always refer to the night after surgery as the slumber party from hell. With only a large cubicle, there was no real privacy except for a curtain that separated us from the lights out in the hallway along with the shuffling of passing feet walking by every few minutes.

As difficult as it all was, I feel so incredibly blessed! I felt like my needs were heard and assistance was quick. Once I awoke, my body began to shiver and my throat and neck began to scream out in pain. Immediately, I was given warm blankets and given the best cherry popsicle I ever tasted!  With the assistance of pain medication and lots of cold water, the pain in my throat began to subside.

Everyone seemed like they really cared! When my neck began to bruise, I was given closer attention. A resident walked several times at least a quarter of a mile to check on me throughout the night. My male nurse was incredible as he kept a close watch over me. And the list could go on and on when I think back on the staff that carried Jay and I through this ordeal.

Once I arrived home, all I wanted was the comfort of my own bed. And with my French bull dog at my feet, I did sleep on and off until the next day. As each day passed, my body has wanted to do more. My pain has subsided to a dull soreness and I’ve become more alert as anesthesia seeps out of my system.

Thank you for your kind thoughts and prayers.

We are now hunkering down for a very low-key Christmas Day and enjoying the peace that comes from the One who sacrificed His life for all of us.

Merry Christmas

Cora
