For the last few weeks, Vern has become more in tuned with my needs. He has followed me around and when I sit, he places himself nearby. When I walk outside, his little body waddles next to me. His compassion for my welfare is very touching.
On the other hand, I believe this diagnosis has made me more in tuned to the blessings that surround me. Just this morning, I walked outside to the garden to find flowers blooming and gourds ready to fall. Psalm 118:24 “This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.” And that’s what I plan on doing.
As we all know, we have no idea if this will be our last day here on earth. So, my plan is to enjoy this day to the fullest. When unwanted thoughts appear, my plan of attack is to push them away with the truth. Romans 8:1 “Because of the Lord’s great love, we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning.”
This coming Monday, I’ll go back over to the hospital to have imaging of my lymph nodes. This will be an important piece of information that can determine what happens next. It is my hope that these lymph nodes are aware that they are not invited to this party. But only time will tell if some uninvited guests sneak in.
No matter the outcome, I believe my attitude and perspective are essential components to how I will weather the storm that is brewing. I know my boat is headed into some choppy waters, but with my supportive husband (who happens to be a very competent sailor) along with my furry four-legged friend, I believe I can already see the blue skies on the horizon.
